Caravaggio's Magdalene in Ecstasy, is one of the master’s most iconic and most copied painting. The original masterpiece disappeared soon after the painter's death in 1610, aged 38. Two leading art historians think it might have resurfaced today 400 years later in a modest private collection in Central Italy. Investigating the authenticity of the work and the chaotic context in which it was created, this documentary retraces the tragic fate of the Lombard genius and sheds light on exclusive new archives.
