British-Italian tenor Freddie De Tommaso made his Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as an Apprentice (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). He returns in the 2019/20 Season as Cassio (Otello).
De Tommaso studied at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating in 2018. At the Royal Academy of Music he sang Don José (La Tragédie de Carmen) and Rodolfo (La bohème). On graduation, he became a member of the Salzburg Festival Young Singers’ Academy. He was a member of the Bavarian State Opera’s Opera Studio 2018/19, appearing as Flavio (Norma), Joe (La fanciulla del West), Parpignol (La bohème), Amelia’s Servant (Un ballo in maschera) and Wassili (Mavra).
De Tommaso has appeared in concert at the Teatro Real Madrid, at the Victoria Hall, Geneva and with the Georg Solti Accademia in Tuscany, and given a recital in Vilagarcia, Spain. His oratorio repertory includes Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Verdi’s Requiem. In 2018 he was awarded First Prize, the Plácido Domingo Tenor Prize and the Verdi Prize at the Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona.
