Arena di Verona: La Bohème
Арена ди Верона: Богема
For the return of La bohème to the Arena di Verona to mark the centenary of Puccini's death, Italian director Alfonso Signorini faithfully recreates Puccini's story while revealing otherwise hidden details of the characters' lives and the Paris in which they live. Juan Guillermo Nova's stage design supports this unfolding of the parallel plots. The viewer's gaze wanders from the attic of Rodolfo and his friends to that of Mimi, who is caught up in her everyday scenes. In the second act, the stage becomes the world of the mid-19th century, meticulously reconstructed from the costumes down to the individual details to create a true tableau vivant that "knows no seasons".
